Spring is finally here and it marks the beginning of allergy season. However, this year, allergy sufferers may encounter more miseries than usual, as the allergy season is hitting harder and heavier than ever before. Cliff Bassett, MD, an allergist in Manhattan, revealed the concept of the “pollen vortex.” Although it is not a scientific term, it pretty well explains why the allergy season this year is a tough one. Bassett explained “Whenever you have a fall and winter with a lot of precipitation like we had in received in most places, the soil is moist.” This leads to the production of more pollen by the plants in the spring and then in summer.
Bassett also highlighted that there may be a “pollen tsunami” in the late spring with more varieties of pollen intermixing. He commented “May is the new April, June is the new May. Allergy misery is just around the corner.” Misery loves to be accompanied so let’s just hope that this spring allergy season which has arrived with high amount of pollens would not be followed by a heavy fall allergy season with high mold and dust.
Although this could have severe impact on people with allergies, understanding the situation ahead of time could help people who suffer greatly due to allergies. Those who suffer terrible allergies can prepare themselves by taking healthy diet, supplements, medications and fresh air for boosting immune response. Several homeopathy remedies may also prove to be effective.
